Yes. This has happened to me previously. What was happening in my case was that a particular message seemed to cause KMail grief and leads to that error. Only ever happened with POP accounts. I was not able to retrieve any messages in this situation. Other clients (like Thunderbird), or a webmail interface had no problems with the "problem" message. What I ended up doing was using Thunderbird to go through the new mail, delete those I didn't want, remark all of the new mail as unread and be sure to leave a copy on the server.
