That's partition number 20, by the way - hda20 ;-)

Just out of curiosity:
What are you using the other "roundabout 19" partitions for?

Huh, now, I have to think. I don't remember. O:-)

windows (system)
extended
swap
3 boot partitions (for booting different setups)
1 test partition (currently holding a spare/rescue/test 10.2)
1 /usr/local
1 home1 (xfs)
1 home2 (reiserfs) (mirroring backup)
1 windows (data)
1 small windows part (fat16, 2G), historical reasons. Usually holds plain
msdos, but now I don't remember.
1 encrypted partition
1 software raid, for experiments.
1 for possible bigger future software raid
1 reserved for testing; currently holds vmware images.
1 with rest for big files.

Now, notice that primaries 3 and 4 are not used, so I don't actually have 20 partitions, but they increase the number.

As previously the limit was 63, there was no reason not to partition at will. This fractionating has sometimes saved my "life" more than once: a partition was utterly destroyed, almost all data lost. If I had everything in a huge partition, the loss would have been terrible.
