It's > an i386 machine. > > Sorry, I wasn't clear. VMware 5.5.5 works on my openSuSE 10.2 distribution, but not on my openSuSE 10.3 distribution. I had to upgrade to VMware 6.0.1 for openSuSE 10.3. My 10.3 kernel is 2.6.22.5-31. Perhaps a kernel upgrade would have fixed the problem.
