I installed the 2.6.22.9-ccj54-default kernel via Yast and then rebuilt
the ATI drivers by hand pursuant to
http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_Driver_HOWTO#The_Hard_Way and
http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/ati-installer-HOWTO.html. Two issues:
First, for some reason Yast/sax2 incorrectly recognizes the card as an
ATI RV350 NP. This is incorrect. The card is correctly listed with glxinfo:
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6747 (8.40.4)
The card was correctly recognized and shown in yast while running the
2.6.22.3-ccj53-default kernel. Additionally, using sax2 under the new
kernel, sax2 starts fine in 1440x900, but when you make any changes and
hit 'test' sax2 goes to a black screen and freezes. Hard restart required.
Second, running glxgears as a normal user causes the following malloc
error, but does run. Running glxgears as root works fine. Both glxgears
and fgl_glxgears frame rates are fine showing hardware acceleration is
working. The malloc error is:

Obviously it is a permission error, but I don't know where to start to
track it down. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
