Hi Dennis.
I had problems a while back with a canon Pixma ip4000. Support
for canon
printers under linux I found is not strong. Many google searches came up with
using different canon models that would give me basic printing abilities but
not the full scope of the printer. e.g. reduced resolution and sometimes no
cd printing. Gimp + gutenprint got me a bit nearer. I ended up downloading a
driver file from www.turboprint.de . This solved the problem and also gives
full printer utilities like ink levels, clean heads, print head alignment
etc. Note, the download is free but asks you to pay about £25 for a licence
key which without, the printouts have a logo on them saying printed using
turboprint. I've used it for 2 years now and although the payment was a
nuisance, the printer has been great.
First I would suggest google for something to give a compatable driver
or
workaround and the the gimp + gutenprint which gives you printouts but not
for the highest resolution in my case, yours might be ok.
