The 1.2 Mb KDE 3 equivalent is SuperKaramba - packaged in kdeutils3-extra.
To run it, enter "desktop widgets" or superkaramba in the start menu search, 
(it lurks in Utilities->Desktop otherwise, then click Get New Stuff to 
download the list of fresh widgets, install the ones you like and find them 
lurking on your desktop.
