Afaik every x86 mainboard on the market uses the same interface to
ATA drives. On some very new boards, where the 'southbridge' is not
supported yet, DMA is disabled, but you should always be able to
access the drive with PIO at least.

Check if you haven't got the drive in a RAID configuration in the
BIOS or something.
