And to handle the SMS side of the equation, please have a look at my
project called SMSLink (shamless plug ;-) ):

It's been built for specifically that purpose and integrates very well
with Nagios. It's GPL as well, so there's no cost.

No OpenSuSE RPMs yet, unfortunately, but it's quite easy to build and
install.
