[opensuse] start-up with blank & white screen prompt for login

Whenever I turn-on my computer, my newly installed OpenSuSE 10.3 is 
prompting me to login (black and white screen) instead of the green 
coloured KDE login screen. The only way I can do is to login with root 
account and then key-in the command "kdm", then the system will show me 
the KDE login screen. Then I can use the system after this login. Please 
advise me. thank you.
