Hi all. I have a samba server running as a PDC on a FC6 box and Windows
clients successfully joining the domain and accessing all resources as
expected.

I recently switched my laptop from Mandrive to OpenSuse (since Mandriva's
latest release no longer played nicely with my wireless card) and decided to
use domain-based authentication for the OpenSuse laptop as well (this machine
dual-boots with WinXP). After initial problems getting OpenSuse to join the
domain (I finally figured out that the Windows and Linux installations had to
have different host names for the machine trust account to be created for the
OpenSuse install) I logged on expecting to be able to access the samba shares
and set them up to auto-mount at logon.

Unfortunately I can't figure out how to make this happen. I can access the
shares via the MyComputer icon on the OpenSuse desktop (under Network
Folders) but applications can't access them via the smb:// protocol and I
can't find a way to mount them on the local filesystem.

Also, every time I first access a share after logging on, even though I am
supposedly authenticated on the domain I am prompted for a username and
password to open the network share. This doesn't happen with the Windows
clients - once the domain user is authenticated the shares are available
without requiring further authentication.

On the Yast Windows Domain Membership configuration screen it shows that I am
currently a member of the domain. I have "Also use SMB information for linux
authentication" checked, "Create Home Directory on Login" checked
and "Offline Authentication" unchecked.

Is this expected behaviour? Is there a way that I can configure the shared
network drives to be auto-mounted at login time? Is a netlogon script for
this machine account on the samba server the correct (or best) way to achieve
this?

Sorry for the long-winded question - just trying to understand what is going
on and I'm not a samba expert by any means.

Thanks,
