Hi Constant,

Here's what I've done in the past:

a. rename the newly created (empty) kmail directory (note the 'dot'):

        mv ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail ~/.kde/share/apps/.kmail

b. recursively copy my existing data directory as the replacement:

        cp -R /path/to/old/kmail ~/.kde/share/apps

c. KMail 'discovers' and, if necessary, imports/reformats the data

Is this what you tried already?

regards,

Carl
