All of a sudden, the floppy is showing up as External Floppy under my
computer. When I right click and do mount on it, it comes up with

Method "Mount" with signature "ssas" on interface
"org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" doesn't exist

There is a floppy disk in the drive with files on it that can be read by
WinXP.

Searching the internet, there are a number of emails about this on Suse
10.1 and a patch was supposedly made to fix it. I am running 32-bit Suse
10.2 of which there is no mention. Does anyone have any other
suggestions?
