Please be sure to reply to list and not directly to me alone. That way others can help out as well and might have additional information that I do not have. You said Alt-F2? Are you sure you don't mean Ctrl-Alt-F2? That is the way to switch to text console. F1-F6 are various consoles, while F7 is graphical. Or, if you do not like that graphical green gecko, just change it to whatever else you want. You have that choice. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. And I never get so emotional over a splash screen. Life is too short to get pissed at something like that. As best as I can tell, you are saying you do not want any graphics on your system, and you only want text-only system. Am I right? If so, then you are in runlevel 5. You need to change to runlevel 3. Edit /etc/inittab and look for line: id:5:initdefault: Change 5 to 3.
