Ah, interesting - I'll have to go back and read that procedure more
closely. I've installed compiz/xgl or beryl on my own desktops more than
once but never rebooted to make it effective, and don't recall any sort
of kernel change.

If it's a matter of possibly confusing windows refugees, perhaps a
button could be added that says "activate compiz now" to avoid forcing
the choice between a reboot or having to type an intimidating command.
