Thank you for the suggestions.

After installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers, and completing the latest round of updates, there is no change in the condition.

Cinelerra does not respond to mouse clicks or keyboard input. And as I have heard, this condition is not universal to Opensuse 10.3, and can occur on both 32 adn 64 bit machines.
