Funny, I had the same thing happen at home but I'd forgotten about it. My wifi 
setup worked fine with Mandriva 2007 but when I switched to OpenSuse 10.3 I 
could not get the laptop to connect, despite the card working fine. I had the 
AP set to suppress the SSID. As soon as I changed that setting (i.e. SSID not 
suppressed), everything started working.

I use WPA-TKIP with a pre-shared HEX key. The same laptop booted from the 
WinXP partition worked regardless of the suppressed SSID, as it did 
previously running Mandriva 2007 (not 2008 - that didn't work  with the 
wireless card at all).

I haven't tried it recently with the suppressed SSID - maybe I should test it 
again with the latest updates and then file a bug if it doesn't work. 

BTW, I gave up using KNetworkManager and manually configured it using Yast 
since I don't need to roam between wireless networks.
