I am now up and working with print screen.
Thanks to everyone for your responses and help.
I was not using the official version of GTK provided with openSUSE 10.3,
which is gtk2-2.12.0-5.4.

I was told:
If you don't absolutely need to upgrade to GNOME:STABLE, I'd suggest to stick
to the version provided on the DVD/OSS repository + online updates.
