Simply using "zypper up" is equivalent to using YOU or openSUSE
updater to install important fixes & security updates. "zypper up -t
package" will also install new versions of packages if they are
available in your repositories too.

This is often undesirable, just because a newer version of a package
is available doesn't necessarily mean you want to switch from the
supported version to the newer one in a buildservice repository.

You can also use zypper up -t package -r <repository> which will
upgrade all packages to newer versions available in the specified
repository, which is a little safer. This could be useful for
upgrading e.g. openoffice or firefox to a newer version from the
buildservice, without switching all your other packages to unsupported
versions too.

Hope that helps
