You're running kde and instead of amarok, you use banshee? (scratches
head...)

My 10.3 systems are all fresh installs and up to date, and play all the
usual multimedia - but I merely added the packman repo and then added
the apps I wanted (amarok, xine, mplayer, kaffeine, w32codecs) rather
than the blind "one-click" method.
