Thanks for the reply Gil. Unfortunately I can't afford any downtime on my laptop. I'd rather switch back to Windows to use Java then to do a re-install that might potentially screw things up (my settings, data I forgot to backup, etc.). Perhaps I'll try the re-installation when I have more time to spare. But I don't know what to tell my friends when I re-install. That in order to get Java running on Linux, I gotta re-install?
