Hey, all -- I'm running a number of opensuse servers, from 10.1 through 10.3.
One of those machines is set up as an LDAP server, which is used by the others for authentication. User management is done via the relevant YaST modules: - LDAP Client -- sets up the auth mechanism and the like - User and Group Management -- to add users, manage passwords, etc. I would like to be able to continue to manage users in this fashion. However, I now have an additional need. An application that we use requires authentication. We have stored authentication information for it in a database, which works, kind of. However, we would like to move from a database backend to the LDAP directory. Each application user will become a system user, some of them with system access, others with /bin/false as their shell. I'm wondering whether there's a way to bulk-load users into openldap in a way that's SUSE-compliant. Creating the necessary LDIF files isn't hard, but that doesn't do much for me in terms of incrementing UIDs and the like...
