I had the same problem with OpenSUSE 10.3 on a Macbook.  I think the
problem is that xorg 7.3 is detecting two different resolutions for
output.  You can use xrandr to "fix" the problem:

     $ xrandr --output VGA --off

The "VGA" part may vary.  For instance, others seem to need to use
"TV".  Fwiw, when I enabled XGL this problem went away, but I cannot
explain why.  However, I also have not tried dual-head, so maybe XGL
disables the second output?

Anyway, you may have already solved the problem, but in case you
haven't I hope this helps.
