OK, you're trying to start a GUI program. Are you in an X session? If
so, I can only gather than the X session is owned by someone other than
root (as it should be). So, how did you become root?

 The 2 step method:

 1. su -
 2. start GUI program

 always works for me...

Ok, but the X is running for the user:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> su -
Password:
erikja:~ # startx
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.3787

You are not following the instructions. He said "start GUI program", he didn't say anything about "startx"; which will not work, you are attempting to start a second GUI session from inside one.

You are supposed to run "antivir-gui" - the GUI program you wante to run at first.
