For what purpose?

To share data with Windows Workstations?
To share data with Linux Workstations?
To login to a Windows Peer to Peer Network?
To access a Domain Server Style Network?
To access a share on a samba server?

Simplest is possibly to setup workstation as a samba server (but that is
stretching the concept of simple somewhat!). There is a procedure to
register a machine into a domain via YaST, but not knowing the version
of SuSE being used and what you intend to do and your environment cannot
give any pointers.

The old SMB based client support requires a local samba configuration
file, the newer cifs support does not need the a NETBIOS name to connect
to a samba share, but does require server capabilities to host a share.
The samba docs (look in /usr/share/docs/packages/samba) go into this in
some depth.
