Hi John,
from my experience everytime any changes happen to the
kernel i.e. upgrade or recompile, my nvidia drivers go up the creek. I
have taken to using the run packages from the nvidia website
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and running that
after every kernel alteration. You have to have a kernel development
pattern installed with headers, syms etc but its much better than losing
various graphic abilities, including not being able to start the X
server at all. I have also given up on sax as it never seems to work
right. The nvidia package gives a very nice Xconfig program as well.
