I've refactored the validation stuff in Xwork and created an ExpressionValidator which can evaluate any Ognl expression against an Action for validation. If it returns true, the validation is successful, otherwise validation is considered unsucessful and adds an error message to the Action.
I'll be writing up the Validation framework docs soon, I promise. I think it's relatively useful now, as you can easily validate fields or ad-hoc validation expressions against the whole Action.
