I've updated Jira to send out alerts for updates, comments, issues being resolved, and issues being reopened. I'm thinking this will give people (other than the issue creator) a better idea of when things are getting fixed, commented on, etc.
For some of these issues, it's better to put comments on the Jira issue than just send them to the list. This way, comments will be sent to the list too.
