Well, that sounds like a licencing problem on the Windows side.

It might be important to know that Windows XP Pro and 2000 Pro come
with a builtin client licence. Maybe that's part of the difference
in behaviour between the two...

What sort of Windows product is running on your server?

Server mode means that you connect to a specific server directly and
not use published resources. So that's perfectly ok, you just did
not expect what you got. :-)

Please, have a look at what the event log on the server says (run
"eventvwr").

Is the terminal server licensing server running? How many Windows
CALs and Terminal Server CALs are installed? (run "licmgr")
