what are you doing with ipxe ?
If you want to run openthinclient, use a standard configuration.
No special DHCP-Options, no special boot-options like ipxe or gpxe.
DHCP-server on a separate machine, that's correct.
Check if all necessary ports on the openthinclient server are available.
You don't have to set up a thinclient in the openthinclient manager with
the MAC-address.
The first step is, that you find your client in "PXE-Clients" in the
manager.
Then you configure this "found" client.

I don't have experience with kvm, but in VMware oder VirtualBox you have to
check, that the NIC is running in bridge-mode.
