Yes, thanks for the advice; I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a
limitation in OTC. Using xterm then I was able to track down the source of the
error which was "Connection reset by peer"; this told me right away that the
connection is valid, but just ultimately rejected by the server, so the
rdesktop application on the client therefore simply shut down having terminated

Since that secondary RDS server I was trying to connect to is outward facing
the WAN, I forgot we had intentionally configured higher security requirements
set on it to reject non-standard RDS clients. This is why the OTC client was
rejected

I will simply setup another RDS server to accept these internal connections
only without the higher level of rdp connection options

Thanks

Frank

Subject: Re: [openthinclient-user] Problems with multiple rdesktop applications

Hello Frank,
please have a look here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/openthinclient-user@lists.sourceforge.net/msg01356.html
Try to start the second rdesktop in the shell and you'll see some messages to
help solving the problem.
Best regards.

2014-01-31 Frank Burnham <fburn...@ofwf.com<mailto:fburn...@ofwf.com>>:
I need to configure two different rdesktop applications each to a different RDS
server. I need to do this because some users are licensed for applications
hosted on one RDS server, yet other users are licensed for different
applications running on a second RDS server. I am also trying to manage some
load balancing on our RDS servers

The first rdesktop application configured in OTC to connect to one RDS server,
and this one works fine with the proper server destination and domain exhibited
in the RDS server login prompt. The rdesktop app launches fine on the users OTC
desktop as expected without problems and the user can work without problems on
that RDS server

To create a second rdesktop application for the second RDS server, I simply
duplicated the original working rdesktop to a new application, renamed that new
application, and then changed the destination server to the second RDS server.

Having assigned that rdesktop application to the client, the application
shortcut is indeed present on the users desktop, but it never launches. When a
user clicks on that rdesktop shortcut, the rdesktop application appears in the
main task bar as if launching, but the application windows never launches and
appears as if the application terminates

I also tried to start a new rdesktop application rather than duplicating it
from the working instance, but this did not resolve the problem. I also tried
the standard rdesktop application template and the redesktop srv template; both
failed

I assigned both rdesktop applications to the client, not the user, and I have
not configured either rdesktop application to use single sign-on or anything
more complicated than just getting an icon on the desktop to launch and require
the user to manually enter their full credentials to log on to RDS server

The user I am testing has access to both RDS servers

We are running OTC version 1; have not upgraded to the newer release yet

Any guidance would be appreciated

Thank you,

Frank
