This is not particularly a good place to announce a license for sale,
because the readership, I think, of this list is relatively small; also,
unless things have changed, this list does not have a web-accessible archive.
There is a list, [EMAIL PROTECTED], which was created for
the purpose of facilitating Protel resales. It also has a small
*membership*, but the readership is probably much higher than the
membership, because this list appears in major indexes. Do a google search
on "Protel resale" and see what you find....
The current *retail* value of Protel 99SE is $7995. The market value is
difficult to determine. I know of a sale at $5500 after the price increase.
Before the increase, it was difficult to resell licenses at $4500. I'd
expect that one might be able to get perhaps $6000 for the license, which
may have been what was paid for it.
Buyers should be aware that a newly-purchased license will have, for a
certain period, free upgrade rights; a resold license will typically not
have these rights (unless that license was very recently purchased, in
which case the seller would get more if the license could be returned to
Protel). That upgrade right could be worth $995. I've heard a rumor that
the next upgrade is not coming until next year. This is later than we
anticipated, but if the rumor is true, all current licenses, even if
purchased just now, would not have the free upgrade right.
Anyone considering buying a resold license should first verify that the
license is owned by the seller, and that the seller has the right to sell
it. Some licenses may have been issued with restrictions. Further, if a
license has been used to upgrade to the next version, it is essentially
invalid. Protel will not recognise it. This, of course, does not apply to
any P99SE license, since this is still the latest version.
