Hello,

After a couple of weeks testing the demonstrator
feed for OpenVAS NVT's (Network Vulnerability Tests),
as of today, the OpenVAS NVT Feed[1] is re-launched with a
completely updated set of the NVT family "Debian
Local Security Checks".

Moreover, from now on the feed will be kept up-to-date
with any newly published DSA (Debian Security Alert).
Running the NVT synchronization script of the OpenVAS
Server will make them immediately available for
Network Security Scans.

In the beginning there will likely appear some delay
between DSA release and availability of the respective NVT,
but we expect the delay to shrink during optimization of
the process.

The Debian Local Security Checks are a contribution of
SecuritySpace[2].
Obviously, it is planned to add support for more NVT families
in the future. We seek for additional security
professionals to form a combined reliable, comprehensive
and sustainable feed.

All NVT's of the OpenVAS NVT Feed are Free Software licensed
under GNU GPLv2 like OpenVAS client and server are as well.

Notes for those who synchronized with the demonstrator feed:

The old NVT files (debian_DSA*) are not automatically removed
from your installation during synchronization with the feed.
They do no other harm than doubling the number of alerts during
a scan. Simply remove the files from your installation
(located by default in /usr/lib/openvas/plugins). In doubt,
please contact the OpenVAS deveopers mailing list.
