Jon,

since 2.0-beta1, glib is indeed required to compile openvas-libnasl due to 
changes in command line parsing in the standalone NASL interpreter.

The package you need is available under etch as "libglib2.0-dev". Could you 
install this package and let me know if you are able to compile?

The documentation and the error messages are indeed not yet very helpful, this 
will be fixed shortly. Thank you for testing the beta and bringing this to 
our attention.
