On a related note, I am considering using onecmdb as a datastore for
network and application data and then adding functions to OpenVAS to
extract data from onecmdb to identify targets and services for scanning. It
is part of my quest for an integrated solution (which also includes service
monitoring).

I'm curious if anyone else has played with this?

A function to add to the list would be very useful, there are quite a few

plugins that can / or could extract hostname data. But yes, broadly
speaking
that seems like a reasonable strategy.
