Initial Comment:
I just had the following problem:
I was running openvassd, it showed me that it loads thousands of plugins and 
afterwards, it's just gone.

Took me a while to find out that if I run it with -f, it will tell me what's 
wrong: The server certificate was missing.

I'd suggest that openvassd should check the availability of the certificate 
BEFORE the daemon forks to the background, so the user gets an error message if 
the daemon doesn't start due to a missing certificate.
