A few questions to help debug the situation:

- Is this with the VM and/or the LiveCD?

- What virtualization system are using (e.g. VMware Workstation)

- How is your VM networking configured (bridged or NAT)

- Does openvas seem to function, even with the errors?

- Did the openvas-sync script seem to start at all?  If so, did it
successfully download any NVT plugins?

The image can most likely be reduced further, it is on my list of items to
do.  Rpcbind was listed as a dependency during packaging, but I believe that
was erroneous and I plan on taking that out.
