Is OMP still supported for OpenVAS-Client? I'm using 1.1.0.SVN.r8597.

hm, not really. We needed it for some time to test and play with the manager.
We do not have enough man power to continue maintainig this OMP client as well.

Does it make sense for you to use the OMP feature of OpenVAS-Client rather
than use one of the other OMP clients?

Currently i'm using both type of clients to get the best of both worlds and i simply tried to integrate gsad-results into OpenVAS-Client.

OpenVAS-Client in my opinion still has many benefits. I really like the grouping of tasks and scopes and more flexible setting of options between scans (e.g. in gsad i have to define a new task if i want to add credentials).

On the other hand gsad (and maybe later gsa-desktop) provides a much nicer interface and useful administration tasks.

But i agree, maintaining different types of clients is a really hard job to to and i can live without OMP-support in OpenVAS-Client.
