Hello OpenVAS Users,

one of the items discussed at OpenVAS DevCon #4 was about
wether it makes sense to continue the development of the
Greenbone Security Desktop (GSD) which is a platform-portable
Qt-based desktop application with support or local languages.

The general experience and agreement was that the GSD received
only very little interest and compared to the effort of maintenance
this looked pretty much out of balance.
The bugs and problems of GSD surely have added to this, but
we believe that the web browser became the most wanted graphical
user interface for most users.

The vast majority of users today is using the GSA, the CLI command or
their own OMP clients.

We discussed whether an App for Android etc. might be a good
idea as a replacement. We are open to this idea but also here
the number of voices asking for this is very very low so far.

So, the development team decided to drop GSD from OpenVAS-7 on.
The two special features of the GSD, dashboard and local language
support are on the feature list for GSA of OpenVAS-7 now.

Of course GSD code is there and if anyone like to continue the
development we'd very much appreciate it.

All the best

Jan
