the alive status in OpenVAS is controlled in the Scan Config, see "ping host"
NVT in "Port Scanners".

However, in OpenVAS-7 the alive test method is a property of a Target and it is
always editable.
This makes the handling a lot easier because you do not have to fiddle around 
with
cloned Scan-Configs and cloned tasks.
