This is supported in current development trunk. Plugins have access to
the reverse lookup value, it is shown in the reports in the web ui etc,.
I backported it to OpenVAS 8 branch, so it should be in the next
maintenance release.
The "Reverse Lookup Only" and "Reverse Lookup Unify" options of the
targeting function appear to do nothing, and no reverse lookups
actually appear to occur regardless of the settings.
From the help documentation in GSA:
Reverse lookup only: Scan only hosts that reverse-lookup.
Reverse lookup unify: Deduplicate hosts based on reverse-lookup value.
ie. If some hosts in the targets string do reverse lookup to the same
fqdn, scan only the first.
