8 GB is nonsense

when you scan only one target machine at the same time 3 GB are pretty fine - and no, swap space don't help you when the scap/nvt sync allocates a large amount of memory *now*

Well, you should update openvas nvts, as they affect more on scan
results and make sure that your scanning machine has at least 8Gb of memory
