I think partially answered my questions. I was able to determine what third party tools need to be installed and got that working ok.
As for the cert, I found that I can add -k /path/to/ssl/private.key and -c /path/to/ssl/certificate.crt when starting gsad, but when doing so I can't load the page. Chrome shows: ERR_SSL_FALLBACK_BEYOND_MINIMUM_VERSION curl shows: $ curl https://localhost curl: (35) Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to localhost:443 Removing those parameters and going back to the self signed cert works just fine.
