If that happens it's because someone set up NAT (masquerading) rules 
on the server.

Disable masquerading for tunneled IPs.

This is actually a problem of routing (hosts in the network need to be
able to reach the VPN IPs if you're not masquerading) and firewall rules
(masquerading), totally independent of OpenVPN config.
