I converted from that older way to control the service to the latter a few years
back.
I did not think of the client as a service, but of course that is what it is in
this case...

What I have observed on my Windows client when it is connected to a faraway
server and shows as green in the tray, then when I restart the faraway server
the tray icon goes white, but then when the server is up it gets green again so
the Windows manually started client seems to try its best to reconnect if it
loses connection. :-)

I will set the client up as a service then.
