btw we actually _have_ such an additional feature already ;)

.) java.util.Date, java.sql.Date, java.sql.Time, java.sql.Timestamp or 
java.util.Calendar must not only be written in a format 
java.text.DateFormat.getDateTimeInstance().parse() understands, but may also be 
written in xs:dateTime format.

I checked the PDR, this has still not found it's way into the spec...
