I think the best way you can do now is to get an overview of OpenWISP 2 by installing it and playing with it <https://github.com/openwisp/ansible-openwisp2> and in parallel study a bit the radius protocol (start from wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RADIUS> and the main RFC <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RADIUS>). If you want to show you are good with django, there's a few issues on django-netjsonconfig <https://github.com/openwisp/django-netjsonconfig/issues> (the main django app of the openwisp2 controller) you could try to address.
