Try to interact with us on the public channels. Use private IM or email
only for confidential information.
Once the coding starts we'll probably interact more privately, but at this
stage let's keep discussion public and shared so everybody can participate.

Remember to read and reply to the questions contained in the section "how
to work with us" of this page:
https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/organizations/5694014226432000/

Show us you are able to acquire the required skills to complete the work.
We know you may not have all the skills required to to everything, but you
need to be ready to roll up your sleeves and work hard to learn and improve.

Play with OpenWISP2 <https://galaxy.ansible.com/openwisp/openwisp2/>, get a
real router, try to connect it to the controller.
Read code of the various openwisp2 modules.
Work on open bugs.
If you find new bugs, open new bug reports.

Try to participate to the discussions on the public channels (mailing
list/forum and IRC).

Consider applying for more than one idea.

Ask questions. No worries if you are wrong on something. Don't be afraid to
write on the mailing list. Don't be shy. Try to be precise in what you
write and do.
Participate and contribute in general, this way you'll experience the world
of open source communities!
