i have this issue as well.
this is not only on asus devices, i got it on a x86 with 3 network
cards running as a router for vdsl.
the ppp number is counting up from ppp0 to ppp1, ppp2 and so one.
i think this is a problem in the firewall script, not the network script.
some openwrt developer said, this was fixed with 8.09 but it is not.
the problem itself is, that the masquerading rule is not working
anymore, if your wan device is ppp0 but the masquerading rule is on
ppp2.
the box itself has internet but nat for the network behind is at this
time not working.
i have not found the bug yet, but told two openwrt developers.
