I'm not sure that qualifies as a sure-fire method. I picked up a few packages and updated them, but still didn't hear back about my request for commit rights or ownership of x86-platform stuff.
I agree with one of the other responders that it would be nice to have a more ordered and methodical way of dealing with submitted patches, perhaps triaging them and responding in the FIFO fashion. -Philip On 3/24/11 1:43 PM, Travis Kemen wrote:
Currently the best way for people to join (and help) the project is to take up maintenance of a package (or a few packages). I put out a call a while back for people to help with this and did get some replies but there are still many unmaintained packages as https://home.comcast.net/~sdwalker/uscan/index.html <https://home.comcast.net/%7Esdwalker/uscan/index.html> shows. You must have spent many long hours contributing to this project and not for example spending quality time with your girlfriends / boyfriends... :) But I must notice as occasional project participant that this project could benefit a lot more than it does now from people like myself. I say this mainly because of the large number of non replied patches posted on this list. That's why I have chosen this subject. Maybe there is a reason I am not aware of why OpenWrt is relatively closed community, but I think that involving some fresh blood in this project could help. At least with answering to the rejected patches. Surely, current OpenWrt developers would "lose" some time to help the new guys starting up, but in the long run it would be time well spent. Best of luck to the OpenWrt project, Luka Perkov
