I get your point and ordered another ZDE 3g-modem to further investigate the issue, it'll arrive in a couple of days. Unfortunately I don't have equipment capable of analyzing the actual USB 2.0 traffic. Yet, I could try with a couple different USB hosts (ar7420, NEC PCI EHCI connected to the pci-bus of on ar2315, x86) and attack usb_modeswitch with gdb, strace and such, probably enable more kernel-debug options, ... I'll find some more time for that during the weekend and be glad for every type of support with that as soon as I got the ZDE dongle. So if you or anyone wants to get your hands on that box, email me your SSH pubkey and I'll add it and make dropbear listen on IPv6.
